Boundaries... (Originally posted 10/6/14)

With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month; I finally landed on a topic that clicked. Boundaries. there are all types of ways to keep people off of your properties, your rooms, etc. But what about your MOST important space, YOU??! It's kind of ironic to me, that even the "ME" generation hasn't caught onto this concept. YOU ARE WORTH BOUNDARIES!!! You do NOT have to be someone's physical, mental, verbal, or emotional "punching bag". (BLF) Fight back by standing up for yourself; believing you are worth it. As we all know, there are things we cannot overcome if things turn extreme (which is an incredibly sad statement of the way the world has gone); but we have to at least try, & you know, my goal in life is to be remembered because "she did what she could". Children need to be taught, right on up through Grandma's & Grandpa's that boundaries ARE a good thing, & to be respected. Keep in mind, however, boundaries are different than walls. I use the analogy of an electric fence vs a brick wall. With an electric fence, you can still see everything; but you know where your limitation is - & if you cross that boundary...!!! Walls, on the other hand, keep people out; but they ALSO keep you trapped inside. I would much rather have an electric fence that I could control who gets in or out; I can see who's coming; & people can see the real me. I hid behind walls for too many years; but I was a doormat, also!!! Skills, people, skills!!! I've even been working adamently on boundaries with Motion, my cat, also. I cannot continue to let her use me as a giant chew toy. Even I don't have THAT much skin!!! Ha, ha!!! Just remember, boundaries can be a good thing for BOTH sides. Have a good day & be safe...
