Are You a Victim??! Do You Know??! ( *see below)

(*cross-posted from www.ozerministriesinc.com, another Blog I write)

Have you EVER been in a Domestic Violence situation? Were you ever forced into a Sexual situation without your consent, either as a child OR an adult? Have you ever been bullied?

These situations can have invisible impacts on your reactions to "every day" events.

One example from my life: If I see a significant other yell at their partner for a minor thing, my hackles go up. I try to give the Victim a look of encouragement; or if I can, I try to say something to encourage them. I don't want to openly draw attention to it, because that gives the perpetrator a bigger audience - which they DON'T need. See, I work in a very public venue, so there are enough people around to, in their mind, "feed THEIR need" for attention. I do NOT want to feed that...if they treat them like that in public, what is going on in the privacy of their home?

Often, all of the situations I described in the first paragraph are a combination. If you were raised in a DV situation or sexually assaulted as a child, you often are subconsciously drawn to that type of relationship, as an adult.

It IS possible to "break that chain", though not an easy road. The first step is the realization that you are/were a Victim. The only person that can change your situation is you.

I encourage you to really think about this, if it strikes a chord in you, or about someone in your life. What is allowed to continue, WILL continue...

There is help available - step two is asking for help, be a trusted friend, clergy, or helpline. There is so much information available at your fingertips; and they are working to make it safer for Victims to report, and get the help they need.

Have a good day, and be safe... #ENDtheSILENCEofVIOLENCE #EtSoV
